Emery Summit 1
Do you like to hike? Or do you want to get into hiking more? Join our Park and Recreation Director, Matt, for the Emery Park Summit Hiking Club! Matt will lead a group hike at Emery Park up to the summit and lookout of Leonard Mountain.

Hikes will take place every Tuesday from 6/18 - 8/27. Meet Matt in the Emery Park parking lot between 6:15pm - 6:30pm. The group hike will begin at 6:30pm.

This program is for adults 18+. All hiking abilities are welcome. Hikes will be canceled at Director’s discretion (inclement weather/thunderstorms, hazards on trial, major flooding, etc). Hikes will take place with light rain.

Some quick FAQ's for the program:
Q: Do I need to be a strong hiker to hike this trail?
A: All abilities are welcome! The program is designed to give hikers a chance to meet and hike. The trail is 2 mile out and back style trail.

Q: What if I'm not a strong hiker and I'm just starting my journey?
A: Welcome aboard and we're happy to be your starting place! You can turn around at any point. You do not need to make it up the entire trail. If your goal is 0.25 miles out, we will support you to help get to that goal!

Q: Do I need water?
A: Absolutely! Bring water! And ask about how to filter and purify water while out on the trial if you run out (Matt will teach you!).

Q: What else should I bring?
A: Bug spray, hiking attire, hiking shoes, and a snack. We also recommend bringing your phone and/or a camera to take pictures at the summit.

Q: What can I see at the lookout?
A: A lot! You can see downtown Kent, Numeral Rock from the Kent School, and on a clear day, the Catskill Mountains (Blackhead, Black Dome, Thomas Cole, and Kaaterskill)!
